 Traditionally the Eugene Glass School has a glass blowing demonstration on the final night of their Flame Off Competition. The Flame Off competition attracts some of the most talented flameworkers from around the country. This year at the 7th annual FlameOff they thought it would be interesting to try and blow a vessel with Borosilicate Glass since many flameworkers use this glass in their work. Borosilicate has a COE of 33 as opposed to the COE of 90 for traditional soft glass which is traditionally used. The properties and workability are much different. To melt the glass they used Skutt's new GM818-3CR Crucible Kiln loaded with 30lbs of a mixture of multiple colors of Northstar Borosilicate Glass. Here is what happened.
