Firing Art Clay Silver onto Porcelain in a Cone Sitter
Controlled Kiln.
- Clean and fire greenware to bisque.
- Do not sand the bisque.
- Clean areas where Art Clay is to be applied with alcohol
to be sure there is no grease.
- Regular Art Clay Silver will adhere to bisque surfaces, use
Overlay Paste on glazed surfaces. It is best for the Art Clay designs to
be connected such as around an arm, neck or leg. Use syringe to add accents.
For some areas, such as earrings on a doll head, rough up area with a diamond
tool or apply Overlay Paste before using syringe work. If you plan ahead
areas can be engraved in the greenware or soft fired greenware to give the
regular Art Clay something to adhere to. Dry completely.
- Place 015 cone in cone setter.
- Place plugs in holes.
- Use firing board or blanket to protect kiln shelf.
- Place pieces on board or blanket in kiln.
- Turn kiln to high.
- Leave kiln lid propped open for the first hour, while binders
burn out of the Art Clay Silver. After 1 hour close lid and wait for kiln
to shut off.
- Allow kiln to cool to under 500ºF.
- Check to be sure art clay has adhered to porcelain. If needed
apply paste to any loose areas and fire again. You can add Art Clay and fire
as many times as needed.
- If you want, apply china paint and fire as usual.
- Burnish Art Clay using a burnisher.
